Kingston Anash Get a Taste of Crown Heights as Music Fills the Streets

For a few hours on Sunday afternoon, Kingston residents could almost be forgiven for thinking they were back in Crown Heights, as loud music and lively festivities brought an unusually energetic atmosphere to the neighborhood.

The commotion came as Kingston's first responders joined local businesses for a large Halloween-themed Trunk-or-Treat celebration on Sunday, October 25, bringing music, decorated vehicles, and crowds of families to Third Avenue.

The event, held in the parking lot of the Hourigan, Kluger & Quinn law firm at 600 Third Avenue, featured participation from the Kingston Police Department, Fire Department, and Department of Public Works, along with numerous local businesses.

More than 50 businesses were expected to participate in the afternoon festivities, which ran from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

A Little Crown Heights Comes to Kingston

For Kingston Anash, who are generally accustomed to the quieter atmosphere of their Pennsylvania neighborhood, the lively sounds offered a somewhat familiar reminder of Brooklyn.

With music carrying through the area, Kingston momentarily seemed to trade its usual small-town tranquility for a taste of Crown Heights street life.

Of course, the occasion was quite different from the familiar celebrations of Eastern Parkway. Rather than a parade or a Jewish community celebration, Sunday's festivities were part of a local Halloween event organized for neighborhood families.

Nevertheless, the unusual burst of music and activity gave residents a reminder that even quiet Kingston can occasionally sound a little like Brooklyn.

The event was part of an annual community initiative bringing together local businesses, first responders, and residents for an afternoon of activities and treats.

And while Kingston may have returned to its usual peaceful pace afterward, Anash who heard the music were treated to a brief reminder of the bustling streets many once called home.
