Kingston Makes Its Mark on National Wrestling Stage as Two Local School Athletes Battle for Championship
Kingston, Pennsylvania, may be a relatively small borough, but this past weekend, its name was making waves on the national wrestling stage — with not one, but two athletes from a Kingston school competing against each other for a prestigious championship title.
Two wrestlers representing Wyoming Seminary in Kingston advanced all the way to the championship finals of the nationally recognized Super 32 Challenge, held October 24–25 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
In a remarkable finish, Ciyanna Okocha and Remington LaFlamme, both teammates at Wyoming Seminary, faced one another for the 175-pound championship.
The result guaranteed something unusual before the match even began: No matter who won, the championship was coming back to Kingston.
Kingston vs. Kingston — on the National Stage
The Super 32 Challenge attracts some of the nation's most accomplished high school wrestlers, making it one of the premier competitions on the wrestling calendar.
Athletes travel from across the United States to compete against nationally ranked opponents, with championship titles carrying considerable recognition in the wrestling world.
After advancing through their respective brackets, Okocha and LaFlamme found themselves in the unusual position of competing against a familiar opponent — their own teammate.
Okocha ultimately captured the championship with a decisive 10–0 technical fall victory, ending the match in 3 minutes and 1 second.
LaFlamme finished as the national tournament runner-up, completing an impressive showing for both athletes and their Kingston-based school.
A Small Town With a National Reputation
For many Kingston residents, Wyoming Seminary is a familiar presence in the borough. But beyond the local community, the school's wrestling program has developed a reputation for competing at the highest levels of the sport.
Wyoming Seminary has attracted accomplished athletes from across the country and built a program that regularly competes for major national honors.
Earlier in 2026, the school's wrestling program captured a National Prep team championship, with several individual wrestlers also earning championship titles.
The latest Super 32 results add another impressive achievement to that record.
Putting Kingston on the Map
While major athletic achievements are often associated with large cities and universities, this weekend's results serve as another reminder that Kingston has its own place in the national sports conversation.
The borough might not be the first place people think of when discussing nationally competitive wrestling programs, but performances like these are helping to change that.
And when two competitors from the same Kingston school meet in a national championship final, it says something about the caliber of athletic talent being developed right here in the neighborhood.
For Kingston, it was a win either way.
